Living with Dementia in the Later Stages

This group aims to provide practical information, education and emotional support for families impacted by a rare or young onset dementia during the late stages of the disease. Later stage dementia is usually characterized by onset of severe symptoms. During this late stage the person living with a dementia may have more difficulty responding to their environment and may be unable to communicate their needs. The person will likely require help with everyday activities and self-care (e.g., needing help sitting up and walking) and many people become housebound and require care in a long-term care setting. This usually occurs during the last two to three years of life.
Sessions will cover a range of topics with practical advice, provide a safe space for participating members to share experiences and include educational information. The group will be facilitated by the RDS Canada team with invited guest speakers. You will need to be a RDS Canada member to attend these sessions. If you’re not already a member, you can now register under the community heading on the home page.
Friendly reminder: if you are a new member who has not yet engaged with our services before, a Direct support Staff from RDS Canada will reach out to you to book an initial consultation in advance to the group start date.
